Postmarked 3

Dear Reader,

This blog serves to tell the dynamic story of Postmarked written by Megan Elise Granger, which is a collection of stories told through the different perspectives of nine people who all begin at the Brunswick, Maine Post Office on September 22nd, 2013. Each character offers a very new and original tale, which will move at it’s own pace and go to various places. And each story will be told in parts. Every Monday, a new part of one of the character’s stories will be added. Postmarked can be read in any order, but it is best to read it in the order of how it is posted, as many of the characters will be intersecting each other’s stories.

Here is a brief introduction to the character’s you will meet in Postmarked through a quote extracted from the first part of each of their stories:

Eleanor Sanders – “I have held on for far too long. And now, with half a dozen people ahead of me, I am ready to let go. I am seventh in line at the Post Office on a busy Thursday afternoon. And while I have other places to be, nothing seems more important than the decision I am about to make.”

Curtis L. Hughes – “Okay, so this is how she wants to play it, huh? A stand off? Well she doesn’t realize who she is dealing with. I am a self-made man. I am Benjamin Franklin in the flesh. I am successful. I am accomplished. And I will be respected. Even if it’s by this insignificant twit, who I will never see again in my entire life.”

Sebastian Garfield – “My body starts to shake and I can’t help it, but I try to hold myself together as much as I can. I head for the door quickly like I’ve been taught to. But, I can’t stop saying “September 22nd’ over and over again to myself. I’m sweating everywhere now. Not just my hands anymore. As I get to the door, I hear the tall woman say to Krista, ‘Latch-key kids. That’s why parents should watch their kids more.’ What does that even mean? I feel like I can’t breathe anymore.”

Ivana Vultaggio – “I just miss her so much. If I could venture backward, I would probably do such a thing. Because I cannot take no more. It has been eight years with me and Antonio having no one but ourselves to love. And soon he will be gone. I do not know how much longer he can hold on. The doctors say within the next couple of months. What can I do? Dio mio! What can I do?”

Louis Rogers – “She yells out, ‘NEXT!’ and I start to push my huge package toward the counter. I snicker to myself. ‘Huge package’. That’s what’s up. That’s what all the ladies must say I’m sure. ‘Louis has a huge package!’ Well ladies, it really is my burden in life, but I guess I’ve learned to live with it. Oh, who am I kidding? I am just really ripe today. Probably because it’s been a while. Longer than I care to mention actually.”

Laura Tremaine – “I don’t look half bad today, I think. I mean, my hair’s held up. Which is nice, for once. My fringe looks–well, not awful. Kinda thinking I could go for a different outfit though. This one’s okay, but I don’t know, cardigans always make me look bigger. Well, my size Tall one doesn’t, but it was dirty. Note to Laura: you need more of those! Maybe if you weren’t so cheap then you could buy things that actually flatter your body. Oh, yea right. Who are you kidding? Nothing could flatter such a weird body type. I mean, there’s apples and pears. I feel like I’m a squash. And there’s nothing attractive about a squash. Nothing.”

Chloe Lang – “One day I’m gonna get one. I’m gonna come in here, like I do every other day. But that day will be different. Because something will compel me to make the jump. And I’ll get the passport. I’ll book my first flight ever to some crazy destination, like Bora Bora or Thailand or Rio de Janeiro. And then I’ll leave Maine behind. And I’ll leave Richard behind. And all the bullshit. And I’ll be my own person. For once in my life. And I’ll like that person. Because no matter who that person will be, she’ll be better than me….as I am right now. I’ll actually be proud to be her.”

Krista Schultz – “I just do what I do every other time and say ‘Hi.’ He looks down and rubs his arm and I can tell he knows I don’t know him. But whatever, I was nice about it. I could have just said, ‘Hello random guy I don’t know, but who knows me because I got knocked up in high school. How are you?’ But, no. I didn’t do that. Because despite being a whore, as everyone thinks, I’m also a nice person, which nobody thinks. I try to avoid any further awkwardness and get down to business.”

Weekly Update No. 4

So….I went to the Post Office today.

But it wasn’t just any trip to the Post Office. I mean, I did send out my Netflix movie. So, there is that. But, the reason this trip was so special is because I also sent two of my Picture Book manuscripts to a publisher!

Finally, right?! So, I sent it to a publisher in Massachusetts as an “Exclusive Submission”. Wait, what’s that mean? Well, it means that for the next three months I can’t send my manuscripts to any other publisher. They basically have rights to it. I may never hear from them, unfortunately, but it is just so nice to finally have them out there! And to know that I’ve finally attempted to get them published! So, in the next three months, my plan is to keep up Postmarked and maybe a couple other Picture Books that I have ideas for. And just wait and hopefully hear good news!

By the way, I have more exciting news! I’ve finally outlined Postmarked! I know the end! Well, the ends! Yay! And I am really excited to tell you that at some point, each of the characters will interact with another character (Post-Post Office) whether big or small. AND! More good news! I plan to go legit with this story and try to turn it into published novel once I’m done writing it! I don’t know what this means yet for my posting it on this blog or how much I should actually post. But, I do know that I am placing my other novel to the side right now and going full blast with Postmarked. No more Sunday writing! I actually already have Louis most of the way done for Monday 🙂 And I hope to get a little bit done of the next character tomorrow. I think Postmarked could turn out to be anywhere from 300 to 500 pages overall (I have 40 pages so far by the way – Isn’t that insane?!). So, hope you readers are prepared for a lot more story! Because it’s coming whether you like it or not!

So, overall this has been a pretty good week 😀

See you Monday with Louis!                                                                               MEGranger

P.S. If this is the first post you’ve read from me, you should start with Eleanor:
